Jesse Hamerman started Beginner Ceramics in March of 2021 after joining a local ceramics studio and immediately falling in love with the process. Having worked with clay in college, it was a return to the medium after 21 years, but more importantly felt like a return to his true self. For the past 22 years, Jesse has collaborated with many artists to produce large-scale, logistically complicated sculptures using many different methods and materials (metal, wood, foam, concrete, water, flowers, airplanes!). After rediscovering clay, he decided to focus all his material knowledge and creative energy into it, and in June of 2022 left his job to pursue Beginner Ceramics full-time. Exploring form with the mind of a beginner and creating with joy is the goal with every object. Each piece is exuberantly made by hand in Brooklyn, New York.
Product Description
A satin black mug with glossy yellow shapes that really pop. Each mug is wheel thrown and altered, with an extruded handle made from a custom die shape. The glazed surfaces are created using a wax etching technique – a process with multiple steps allowing the pattern to be intrinsic to the form.
Each item is unique. Please note that coloration and finish may vary.
